2 dead in crash near Lehigh County border, authorities say

Two men are dead following a crash over Memorial Day weekend near the Lehigh County line, authorities said.

The Lehigh County Coroner's Office identified the deceased as Trevor S. Hunsicker, 36, of Kingston, Luzerne County, and Jason Reed, 50, of Palmerton, Carbon County.

Hunsicker was pronounced dead shortly before 10 p.m. Friday at Lehigh Valley-Cedar Crest Hospital in Salisbury Township. Reed was pronounced dead at 9:32 a.m. Tuesday at St. Luke's University Hospital in Fountain Hill. Both men died from multiple traumatic injuries from the motor vehicle collision and the cause of each was ruled accidental, Lehigh County Coroner Daniel A. Buglio said.

Pennsylvania State Police in Lehighton said the crash happened shortly before 6 p.m. Friday in the 400 block of Ashtown Drive in Mahoning Township. Hunsicker was driving a 2022 Subaru westbound at a high speed when he lost control and crossed into the eastbound lane, striking a 2015 RAM pickup truck, state police said.

Hunsicker and his front passenger, Reed, were both ejected from the vehicle, state police said. The crash was related to drunken driving, state police said.

No other injuries were reported. A 36-year-old woman and a 32-year-old man, both from Lehighton, Carbon County, were the occupants of the RAM, state police said.

Friday's crash continues to be investigated by the Pennsylvania State Police in Lehighton and the Lehigh County Coroner's Office.
