2 dead, 3 injured in shooting in Pembroke Township

PEMBROKE TOWNSHIP, Ill. — Two men are dead and three others are injured after a shooting in Pembroke Township Friday evening.

Kankakee County deputies say they were called to the area of ​​13100 East Central Street shortly before midnight Friday following reports of shots fired in the area.


Authorities arrived on scene to find two large groups of people attending two separate parties at a nearby banquet hall. Many of them were actively fleeing the scene upon arrival.

Authorities eventually located five victims, all suffering from gunshot wounds. Two of the victims later died from their injuries.

Authorities have since identified the victims as Milton Sykes, 44, a Kankakee resident who died after being taken to the hospital, and Edward Colon, 32, a Chicago resident who was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities did not provide details on the condition of the other three victims.

At this time, it is unclear what exactly led to the shooting and an investigation is underway.
