2 brothers killed in shooting at Exposition Center near LA Memorial Coliseum; suspect at large

EXHIBITION PARKS, LOS ANGELES (KABC) — Two brothers were killed Saturday afternoon in a shooting at the Fairgrounds, near the LA Memorial Coliseum.

It happened around 2 p.m. near the intersection of Budlong Avenue and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.

The brothers, believed to be in their 20s, were sitting in a vehicle on Browning Boulevard when someone approached and shot them, according to police.

One of the brothers died instantly while the other died in hospital. Police say it does not appear to be a random attack.

“We have an individual suspect, a single suspect, who had a conversation with both of our victims before the shooting,” LAPD Capt. Michael Lorenz said. “Shortly after, the suspect drives away, our victims get into the vehicle, the suspect approaches, fires bullets into the vehicle where both victims are struck by gunfire.”

Family members were there Saturday afternoon but were too distraught to speak. Eyewitness News has learned that one of the brothers is the father of twins.

Residents said ABC7's shootings were not unusual in the area, but they would like the violence to stop.

“Just think it’s bad,” Jonathan Smith said. “We have a lot of kids here in the schools. If we could just give each other a helping hand instead of hating each other… there would be a lot of hate.”

Detectives do not believe the shooting was gang-related.

Meanwhile, the shooter is still on the run. A detailed description was not available, but police said the suspect was seen driving a white Toyota or Lexus.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police.
