2 arrests, fleeing the scene: suspended license, drugs

COLUMBUS, Ind. — The Bartholomew County Sheriff's Office arrested two individuals on drug charges and driving with a suspended license after they fled the scene Thursday.

Sarah Caffee, 32, a resident of Columbus, was booked into the Bartholomew County Jail and faces the following charges:


  • Knowingly resisting law enforcement
  • Resisting law enforcement with a vehicle (a level 6 felony)
  • Possession of paraphernalia
  • Driving while suspended
  • Illegal possession of a syringe (a level 6 felony)
  • Possession of a Narcotic Drug (a level 6 felony)
  • Illegal possession or use of a legendary drug (a level 6 felony)
  • Possession of cocaine (a level 6 felony)

Donovan Martin, 27, a Columbus resident, was also booked into the Bartholomew County Jail and faces the following charges:

  • Possession of a Narcotic Drug (a level 6 felony)
  • Possession of paraphernalia
  • Knowingly or intentionally operating a motor vehicle without ever receiving a license

According to a BSCO news release, an officer recognized the driver and the deputy already knew her driving privileges were suspended, leading him to initiate a traffic stop of the vehicle.

The vehicle failed to stop and fled for several blocks before stopping. The two occupants then fled on foot.

Caffee was nearby on Newton Street and was taken into custody without incident. Martin was also found nearby and taken into custody a short time later, the police report states.

Law enforcement said they searched the vehicle and found both narcotics and paraphernalia. The police report adds that drugs and drug paraphernalia were also found during the foot chase, which Martin abandoned.

According to Caffee, she did not stop the vehicle because Martin threatened her with a handgun and demanded she continue. However, the police report states that no firearm was found inside the vehicle or in the area of ​​the foot pursuit.

Caffee remains in the custody of the Sheriff's Office on $10,000 bail, and Martin remains in custody for 72 hours.
