2 arrested in Macomb County with stolen IDs, credit cards and unregistered handgun

WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, Michigan. – Two men face 10 criminal charges and several misdemeanors after allegedly being arrested in possession of stolen property in Macomb County.

According to authorities, officers were dispatched to the Enclave Apartments in Washington Township following reports of a suspicious vehicle around 9 a.m. on May 14. The Sheriff's Department said they made contact with Derek Russell, 26, and Dakwan Young, 24, who were allegedly in a car that smelled of marijuana.

Authorities said a search of the vehicle uncovered multiple IDs, credit cards, gift cards and Social Security cards, an unregistered handgun, a credit card reader and suspected stolen property.

Russell and Young were taken into custody. Both were charged with one count of Personally Identifiable Information – Obtaining/Possessing/Transferring with Intent to Commit Identity Theft, three counts of Financial Transaction Device – Theft /retention without consent, one count of receiving and concealing stolen property under $200 and unlawful use. of a license plate.

Russell's bond was set at $10,000, cash/surety.

Young was also charged with one count of possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, one count of possession of ammunition by a prohibited person and one count of purchasing a pistol without a license. His bond was set at $20,000 cash bail.

Both men remain incarcerated at the Macomb County Jail.
