2-alarm house fire in Carthage displaces 7 people

CINCINNATI (WXIX) – Three adults and four children were displaced Saturday after a fire broke out at a two-story home in Carthage, according to the Cincinnati Fire Department.

Around 2:45 p.m., fire crews were dispatched to the 200 block of West 68th Street for reports of a structure fire, district Fire Chief Carstell Winston said.

Firefighters on scene reported a massive fire on the first and second floors of the house, which has a wooden frame and attic.

A second fire alarm was pulled due to the size of the fire and several crews attacked the fire from the interior while searching the home for occupants, the CFD reported.

According to the chief, the family evacuated before firefighters arrived.

Fire officials said no smoke detectors were found in the home.

The Cincinnati Fire Investigation Unit remained on scene for hours due to an extensive overhaul.

Investigators reported damages estimated at $300,000.

The Red Cross is helping the family with housing.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
