19-year-old killed in Dolores Park shooting

A man was shot near Dolores Park Wednesday evening shortly after 10 p.m., according to San Francisco police.

Police said the shooting happened on the northeast side of the park along Dolores Street between 18th and 19th streets on June 5.

District 8 Supervisor Rafael Mandelman told Mission Local that the man was a teenager, just 19 years old, and that several shots were fired.

“Mission Station, like many stations, is under pressure from a staffing standpoint – but it's an area where crimes are taking place and shootings have occurred,” Mandelman said. “It’s worrying, the neighbors are worried. I hope there will be an increased police presence, particularly while they investigate what happened. »

But ultimately, he added: “We have too many guns. »

The medical examiner's office has not yet released the identity of the victim.

Bob Hoffman, a dog walker who lives and works in the area, said the shooting worries him because he often walks in the area late at night. “It’s really scary,” he said. “I walk in the park around two in the morning. Seems pretty safe, but I guess you never know.
