19-year-old in critical condition after stabbing in downtown apartments, police say

DES MOINES, Iowa — Police are investigating a stabbing that left a 19-year-old man in critical condition Tuesday morning in Des Moines.

It happened during an argument shortly after 10 a.m. at the Oakridge neighborhood apartments, according to Sgt. Paul Parizek of the Des Moines Police Department. The injured man was stabbed in the neck and was initially doing well at the scene, but his condition became critical, and Sgt. Parizek said doctors rushed him to the hospital to receive advanced treatment.

Detectives will remain on scene to continue to investigate the circumstances of the dispute. Sgt. Parizek said the parties involved knew each other and may be related.
