19-year-old arrested after 2 carjackings on East Side

INDIANAPOLIS — A 19-year-old Indianapolis man has been arrested after being linked to a shooting and carjacking that occurred Wednesday on the east side of Indianapolis, as well as another carjacking that occurred in the area at the beginning of the month.

According to a post on the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department's social media page, 19-year-old Bryant Hoskins was arrested on the following preliminary charges:


  • Aggravated assault with a deadly weapon
  • Armed robbery
  • Possession of a machine gun
  • Theft of a firearm

Officers from the department's Eastern District responded to the 8100 block of E. 36th Street just after midnight Wednesday for a reported shooting. During their preliminary investigation, police learned that a woman had been shot during a robbery.

The woman told police at the scene that her vehicle, along with a gun, had been stolen and that the suspect, later identified as Hoskins, had shot her when she tried to defend herself. The post states that the hijacked vehicle was located shortly after the incident.

During the investigation, detectives said there were similarities between this carjacking and a previous one that occurred on May 24 in the 7900 block of E 38th Street. Detectives were later able to locate Hoskins at an apartment , who was then taken into custody without incident. .

IMPD detectives then searched Hoskins' home and the woman's vehicle. The message stated that the woman's firearm had been located along with property related to the carjacking reported on May 24. A second firearm, equipped with a machine gun conversion device, was also reportedly located.
