18-year-old killed in shooting at Dauphin County apartment complex

An 18-year-old man was killed in a shooting at a Dauphin County apartment complex Tuesday evening, Susquehanna Township police confirmed.

Officers were dispatched to Building 3621 of the Whisperwood Apartments around 7 p.m. for an unresponsive man, according to Susquehanna Township Public Safety Director Robert Martin.

When police arrived at the apartment complex, located at 3602 Brookridge Terrace, they found an 18-year-old man in the basement of the building suffering from a gunshot wound, Martin said. The teen was pronounced dead at the scene and was seen being taken out of the area by the Dauphin County Coroner's Office around 10:45 p.m.

Emotions ran high in the complex's parking lot as neighbors, family and friends of the 18-year-old man came to comfort the man's family. Many were in tears.

“Our hearts, our prayers and our thoughts go out to his family,” Martin said. “We will work all night for this lost soul and his family.”

Susquehanna Township police conducted an investigation Tuesday evening after a report of an incident at an apartment building in the 3600 block of Brookridge Terrace.

The identity of the victim was not released Tuesday evening, but Martin said additional information would become available in the coming days.

A man who lives next door to the victim on the second floor of the building said the teen was a Susquehanna High School senior who was scheduled to graduate in just a few days.

“I never heard a disrespectful word from him,” said a high school special education teacher who said she was one of the victim’s teachers.

Police announced no suspects Tuesday evening and are urging anyone with information regarding the shooting to contact Susquehanna Township police at 717-909-9231.
