16-year-old shot and killed in park near Madison Community Center

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — A shooting at a community park left 16-year-old Justin Robinson fighting for his life in the hospital. The Metropolitan Police said the teenager, who was in a critical condition at Skyline Medical Center, has now died.

Metropolitan Police spokesman Don Aaron said it all started in the grounds of the Madison Community Center.

Two rival groups of teenagers met Wednesday afternoon, fought and two teenagers began shooting at each other. A 16-year-old boy was shot in the chest.

“It’s a concerning phenomenon that young people are owning guns,” Aaron said. “It's really no different than the type of scenario that happened at Red Caboose Park a few weeks ago in Bellevue. These kids grabbed guns, and disrespectful comments started, and then all of a sudden , weapons were produced, and one side started shooting and the other side is firing shots.

Aaron said the victim was picked up by a passing driver, who was not involved. They took him and another teenager to the hospital.

Cassandra Compton learned what had happened when she picked up her young children from summer camp.

“It’s crazy because kids can’t be kids,” she said. “We have 3 children who attend this center and they could have been outside when this happened.”

“Put down your weapons because there are too many people dying,” added father Nick Sims, who was with Cassandra and the children. “Too many kids are grabbing guns. It's just senseless killings.”

Police are now searching for the rest of the teens involved.

I think we can all remember our favorite teachers. In many ways, they leave an imprint on our lives. Get your tissues ready for Forrest Sanders' story about Mrs. McMurray. She has invested so much in her students, and they return her love when they need it most.
