15-year-old girl killed in Mount Trashmore shooting, 18-year-old man in critical condition. – The Virginian Pilot

VIRGINIA BEACH – Two teenagers were shot – one fatally – Saturday evening at Mount Trashmore Park.

The victims were a 15-year-old girl who died from her injuries and an 18-year-old man who is in critical condition, according to police.

The incident began with a fight inside the summer carnival area of ​​the park, police said. Virginia Beach sheriff's deputies, who were working side jobs at the event, quickly broke up the fight, but it then resumed in a nearby parking lot on Edwin Drive, police said.

“At least one individual pulled out a firearm and fired shots,” according to a statement from the department. The first 911 call was received around 8:30 p.m., the release said.

Both victims were taken to hospital for treatment. The girl, who was not identified, was later pronounced dead.

“The increase in youth gun violence we are experiencing in our community is concerning and reprehensible,” Police Chief Paul Neudigate said in a statement. “It is heartbreaking to continue to see young lives lost and families torn apart by these senseless acts. »
