A 14-year-old boy and another man were injured in the same shooting.

“My heart cries for the victims, their families and our community after last night’s shooting. This shooting was reckless, avoidable and overall unacceptable. “A weekend that was supposed to be a celebration turned into another act of senseless gun violence that left two people dead and two others injured,” Richmond Mayor Levar Stoney said in a statement.

A resident told CBS 6 there was a large Memorial Day gathering at the cul-de-sac at the end of Raven St.

She said it seemed friendly, but an argument broke out shortly before the shooting began.

On Tuesday afternoon, as RPD forensic teams continued to search for evidence up to two blocks away, members of the RPD Rapid Support Trauma Engagement (RESET) group returned in the neighborhood to offer support to neighbors.

“We hear frustration. We hear anger. We hear fear and we hear people who are really committed to finding answers to stop this madness,” said Chaplain Cruz Sherman, a member of the RESET team. “It was heartbreaking to know that once again we are in the middle of renewed violence.”

Sherman said that in addition to offering support, they also focus on what he calls “Everyone, Reach One” trying to reach out to people who might have a problem in the neighborhood and convince them not to not resort to violence, much less armed violence, to solve the problem.

“Because not only do you impact the lives of others, you also impact your life. Because ten seconds can end up being a life of misery for you, whether it's behind bars and think of misery that you cause to families and friends and the community at large,” he said.
