14-year-old boy found dead after swimming in Silver Creek, New Albany police say | WDRB News

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A 14-year-old boy was found dead after going swimming in Silver Creek Monday, police say.

Andre Edwards Jr. was swimming in Silver Creek near Providence Way when he fell underwater and did not resurface around 4 p.m. Fire and police departments from New Albany and Clarksville responded to the scene, according to New Albany Police Chief Todd Bailey.

The teen was actively searched for several hours near a southern Indiana creek.

Police said Edwards was swimming in Silver Creek and decided to jump from the dam. That's when a current caught him and trapped him underwater, police said.

First responders suspended the search on Silver Creek due to darkness Monday evening around 9:30 p.m. The search was expected to resume Tuesday morning, according to Bailey.

Edwards was found in Silver Creek in the Providence Way area, near the initial search area, according to Bailey.

“Due to the current nature of the investigation, we will not speculate on the cause of death,” Bailey said. “The New Albany Police Department’s Bureau of Criminal Investigation continues to investigate this matter.”

Anyone with information is asked to call the New Albany Police Criminal Investigation Division or police communications at (812) 944-6411.
