13-year-old charged in fatal shooting in west Houston

A 13-year-old boy faces capital murder charges after a robbery attempt turned deadly in west Houston.

The shooting happened around 4:10 p.m. on February 17 on Wilcrest Drive.

Authorities found the victim, Bryan De La Cruz Chaparro, 18, sitting in a vehicle in the parking lot of an apartment complex, unconscious and suffering from a gunshot wound. Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene.

Further investigation determined that Chaparro was killed during an attempted robbery and that a 13-year-old boy was the suspected shooter. The teen was already in custody in Harris County Juvenile Probation when the murder charge was filed.

The suspect's mugshot and booking photos are not available at this time.
