13-year-old arrested for shooting seriously injured teenager in April

The teen, who was 12 at the time of the alleged crime, is charged with third-degree assault, reckless endangerment and unlawful possession of a firearm.

SPOKANE, Wash. — A 13-year-old boy has been arrested in connection with an April shooting that left a 16-year-old seriously injured.

According to the Spokane Police Department (SPD), the 13-year-old suspect was arrested and booked into the Spokane County Juvenile Detention Center on Tuesday. He is charged with third-degree assault, reckless endangerment and second-degree unlawful possession of a firearm.

The shooting happened near the Center Court Apartments on North Nevada Street on April 24. Police arrived on scene and found a 16-year-old boy who had been shot. Police learned a group of juveniles were hanging out at the apartments when someone shot the 16-year-old. He was transported to a nearby hospital with serious injuries, according to SPD.

Detectives later determined the suspect was the aforementioned 13-year-old, then determined he was actually 12 years old at the time of the shooting.

The identity of the teenage suspect has not been released by police.
