12-year-old captured in crime spree near Colorado Springs, another suspect wanted

EL PASO COUNTY Colorado (KKTV) – A 12-year-old boy was captured during a crime spree near Colorado Springs, according to the El Paso County Sheriff's Office.

The sheriff's office shared details of the case with the public via a news release Friday. The sheriff's office said it received a call related to a business alarm Wednesday morning around 3 a.m. from Springs Armory on Waynoka Road in unincorporated El Paso County. The business is located east of Powers in the Cimarron Hills area. When officers arrived, they found an empty vehicle in front of the building.

“A review of surveillance video showed the vehicle entering the building, followed by two individuals entering the premises,” the sheriff’s office added in the press release. “An additional vehicle was waiting outside. The two individuals ran out of the business and got into the second vehicle, leaving the area before El Paso County Sheriff's deputies arrived. »

Around 8 a.m., the Sheriff's Office received a call about a stolen vehicle in the Security-Widefield area. The suspects in this second crime matched the description from the previous incident and the stolen vehicle was found in the area. When police arrived, three suspects attempted to flee. The 12-year-old boy was immediately arrested, and Victor Parada Jr., 18, was later captured. Parada is charged with second-degree burglary. It is unclear whether the 12-year-old boy will be charged.

A third suspect is still at large.

Deputies recovered the vehicle involved in the previous burglary at Springs Armory as well as evidence from several crimes reported in unincorporated El Paso County and the city of Colorado Springs.

Anyone with information about these crimes is asked to call 719-520-7777.
