12-year-old boy among four other teens arrested on suspicion of rape in Newark incident

Nottinghamshire Police arrested four more boys – all aged under 14 – after a teenage girl was raped on a playground. Officers received a report that a young girl had been attacked at the playgrounds game from York Drive in Newark between 5:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Saturday, May 25.

Detectives investigated and arrested four other boys in connection with the incident. A 12-year-old boy, a 13-year-old boy and two 14-year-old boys were all arrested on suspicion of rape. They were all released on bail and subject to strict conditions.



Four teenagers were also arrested earlier this week on suspicion of rape and all four remain on bail, Nottinghamshire Police said. Detective Inspector Amy Revill said: “We have made four further arrests in this case and our investigation continues to progress at pace.

“We are continuing to support the girl and her family with specially trained officers and are doing all we can to establish exactly what happened. I would like to again appeal to the local community and anyone who may have information to contact us. Several people have come forward to help us with our requests – so thank you for your help.

Inspector Charlotte Ellam, Newark District Commander, added: “I understand the concerns this incident has caused in our Newark community. But I want to make it clear that the team of detectives investigating this incident are working around the clock and we will find out exactly what happened.

“We have carried out additional patrols in the area and this will continue. So if you have any concerns please speak to one of my agents. We also ask people to avoid speculation as we work through this process.
