12 people arrested for suspected human trafficking in Macomb County

(WWJ) — A dozen people are in custody in connection with a human trafficking operation after a series of searches of homes and health centers across Macomb County on Wednesday.

Around 7 a.m., the Macomb County Sheriff's Enforcement Team and federal authorities executed search warrants at two homes in Macomb Township and health centers in Shelby Township and Sterling Heights.

Authorities identified the businesses as 25 Health Spa on Shelby Road near 25 Mile in Shelby Township. and Healing Plus Spa on Mound Road near 17 Mile.

Many details about the arrests remain secret as the investigation continues, but Sheriff's Office officials said all search warrants were linked to a suspected human trafficking operation.

Six people were arrested by the sheriff's office and six by U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

Authorities have not released any names, ages or hometowns of those arrested.

A spokesperson for the sheriff's office told WWJ that no further information can be released at this time because the investigation is ongoing and interviews are ongoing.
