11-year-old stabbed to death during chaos on Jersey Shore: reports

NEW JERSEY — A number of towns along the Jersey Shore, many of which enacted curfews ahead of Memorial Day, faced multiple incidents of chaos over the holiday weekend, including stabbings of a teenager and the shooting of a child, according to reports.

In Ocean City, a 15-year-old boy was stabbed after a fight broke out on the boardwalk Saturday night, CBS reported. The teen was taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center in Atlantic City with non-life-threatening injuries.

Although police have not said whether anyone has been arrested in connection with the stabbing, several arrests have been made in connection with other incidents on the boardwalk.

“As in recent years and in other coastal cities, Ocean City has experienced a number of problems related to large crowds of teenagers on the boardwalk, fights, shoplifting and disorderly behavior at the start of Memorial Day weekend,” said Ocean City Mayor Jay A. Gillian. said in a statement. “I understand the impact this behavior has on all of our residents, guests and business owners, and I want to assure everyone that Ocean City will not tolerate it.”

An 11-year-old Atlantic City boy was hit by a stray bullet that passed through a home in the 100 block of North Rhode Island Avenue where he was, NBCPhiladelphia.com said. He was transported to a nearby hospital as his injuries were not life-threatening.

The shots were fired after two women, Yanirah Davis, 22, and Yontay Cooper, 33, came to the area with a rifle and other weapons intending to fight a group they were with. had already had an altercation. Both women were arrested and charged in connection with the shooting.

Meanwhile, in Wildwood, the state of emergency ended at 6 a.m. Monday and the boardwalk reopened after “numerous incidents of civil unrest” over the weekend, according to a police department alert from Wildwood.

The boardwalk was closed after a crowd of teenagers ignored the curfew, according to NJ.com.

“Out of an abundance of caution due to emerging conditions resulting from civil unrest threatening the public health, safety and welfare of our residents and visitors, the City of Wildwood has declared a state of emergency in order to maintain order public in his country. our jurisdiction,” police said in a statement released around 12:20 a.m. Monday.

There was also chaos on the Seaside Heights boardwalk after a “gunshot”, which was actually a car backfire, was heard, forcing teenagers and young adults to flee the area, reported ShoreNewsNetwork.com.
