(WJET/WFXP) – Authorities are searching for a missing child after disappearing from a beach in Conneaut Township, Ohio.

Conneaut City Manager Nicholas Sanford said calls came in just before 1:30 Friday afternoon for a missing 10-year-old boy.

Members of the Conneaut Police and Fire Department as well as the U.S. Coast Guard are searching for the child, as well as an underwater search by the Conneaut Dive Team and search and rescue dogs have also been brought.

According to the USCG Great Lakes post on X, formerly known as Twitter, ODNR, Coast Guard dive teams and STAs Erie/Fairport and AIRSTA Detroit are all assisting in the search.

The National Weather Service issued a warning earlier this week about strong rip currents at many Lake Erie beaches Thursday through Saturday afternoon, advising beachgoers to stay out of the water.

“On behalf of the City of Conneaut, our thoughts and prayers certainly go out to the family, the Ashtabula County Crisis Response Team is with the family along with members of the clergy from the City of Conneaut, which is a fantastic benefit. It's unfortunate to be in these circumstances, but we're glad they're with the family at this time,” said Nicholas Sanford, Conneaut, OH city manager.

This is a developing story, details will be provided as they become available.
