A 10-year-old girl riding a dirt bike died after being struck by a car near Pagosa Springs Thursday, according to the Colorado State Patrol.

On Thursday, around 5:30 p.m., state troopers received a call about a fatal crash at the intersection of Forest Service Road 631 and Forest Service Road 640 in Archuleta County, near Pagosa Springs, according to a Colorado State Patrol press release.

A girl riding a dirt bike south on Forest Service Road 640 ran a stop sign at the intersection of Forest Service Road 631. She was unable to make a sharp right turn on Forest Service Road 631 and entered the eastbound lane, according to the state of Colorado. Patrol. An 18-year-old man driving a Toyota Tacoma east on Forest Road 631 struck the dirt bike. The man was not injured and remained on scene, according to the release.

The girl was wearing a helmet and protective gear at the time of the accident. Bystanders and emergency medical services personnel took steps to save his life, but he was pronounced dead at the scene, the release said. The girl has not been publicly identified.

The crash remains under investigation by the Colorado State Patrol. More information is not yet available.
