1 teenager killed and several others injured in violent accident in Wolcott: PD

WOLCOTT, CT — One teenager was killed, another was seriously injured and three other teenagers were seriously injured in a fiery crash, police said.

At 10:02 p.m. Saturday, police received a report that in the area of ​​734 Spindle Hill Road, a vehicle had left the road and struck a tree and that the car was also on fire.

Police found the vehicle on a small embankment, lying on its side against a tree. The front of the vehicle was on fire.

Two people were outside the vehicle and told officers there were three other people inside the burning vehicle, police said.

Wolcott volunteer firefighter JR Donofrio arrived and began battling the flames with a fire extinguisher, while a police officer reached through the broken rear window and removed the remaining occupant from the back seat, police said.

Firefighters put out the flames.

The other two front seat occupants were trapped inside and had to be extricated from the vehicle, police said.

The 17-year-old front passenger seat occupant was in critical condition and was transported by Lifestar to Hartford Hospital. The 18-year-old driver of the vehicle was pronounced deceased. The three rear seat occupants, ages 16, 18 and 18, were seriously injured and were taken by ambulance to local hospitals, police said.

The Naugatuck Valley Collision Investigation Team, comprised of officers from area cities, was called to the scene and will investigate the cause of this crash.
