1 teenager dead, 6 injured in Lansing

LANSING, Mich. — An investigation is underway after 7 people were shot and a 17-year-old man was pronounced dead in the 300 block of River Front Dr, according to the Lansing Police Department.

The call came in shortly before 3 a.m. on Monday, May 27.

Police say a large group of people were gathered in the area.

We are told that the ages of the victims vary between 15 and 20 years old.

No arrests have been made and this is believed to be an isolated incident.

Lansing Mayor Andy Schor later issued a statement saying:

“My thoughts are with the victims and their families. The fact remains that access to weapons is too easy. These young people should not have had these weapons. We take hundreds of illegal guns off the streets every year, while continuing to deal with these tragic incidents. We need more action from state and federal governments to control access to guns. We will work with all of our law enforcement partners and use every tool at our disposal to determine who is responsible for this and ensure they are held accountable. And we will vigorously hold the owner of the weapons used accountable. Access to a gun and the desire to use it is too easy and we will arrest all parties responsible. This must stop. »
