1 person dead, 4 others injured in apparent drive-by shooting in Fort Lauderdale, police say

One person was killed and four others injured in what appears to be a drive-by shooting in Fort Lauderdale Friday, Florida law enforcement said.

Officers responded to the shooting shortly after 7 p.m., Fort Lauderdale police Detective Ali Adamson said. When police and firefighters arrived, they found five men suffering from gunshot wounds.

All victims were transported to Broward Health Medical Center with life-threatening injuries, and one victim was pronounced dead at the hospital, according to police. Another victim is in critical condition and the three other victims are in stable condition and expected to survive, officials said.

Police believe it was a drive-by shooting, but have not provided information on a motive or if there are any suspects. It is also unclear how many people opened fire.

Police have asked for the public's help in continuing their investigation.

“Anyone with information about the suspect(s) or suspect vehicle is encouraged to contact the FLPD immediately,” Adamson said.

The Florida incident adds to the list of more than 215 mass shootings in the country so far this year, according to the Gun Violence Archive. The archives, like CNN, define a mass shooting as one in which at least four people are shot, excluding the shooter.

This is a developing story and will be updated.
