1 person airlifted after suffering burns in North Carolina camper trailer fire, officials say

CEDAR CREEK, N.C. (WNCN) — A burn victim was airlifted to an area hospital after a large camping trailer was destroyed in a fire in Cumberland County Sunday evening, officials said. responsible.

The fire was reported shortly after 6:30 p.m. along Graye Fryers Lane, about four miles southeast of Fayetteville, near Tabor Church Road, just east of the Cape Fear River.


When crews — almost all volunteer firefighters helping out on Father's Day — arrived on scene, heavy flames were coming from the camper trailer, according to Vander Fire District officials.

A man at the scene suffered burns and was airlifted to Cape Fear Regional Hospital and may be taken to the UNC Burn Center in Chapel Hill, according to fire officials.

At least 25 firefighters from six different agencies responded and helped fight the blaze, officials said.

Witnesses told CBS 17 the fire appeared to have started due to issues with a generator, which caused flames to reach a propane tank which then fueled the fire.

The fire also seriously damaged a car parked near the trailer.

After more than two hours, the scene was clear. No one else was injured in the fire.

The Cumberland County Sheriff's Office is working to determine the cause of the fire.

Crews on scene were from the Cedar Creek Volunteer Fire Department, Beaver Dam Volunteer Fire Department, Stedman Volunteer Fire Department, Vander Volunteer Fire Department and the Fire Department from the city of Fayetteville.
