1 killed, teen injured in ATV crash in Chilton County

A 19-year-old was killed and a 16-year-old injured in an all-terrain vehicle crash Monday in Chilton County. The crash happened around 4:17 p.m. on County Road 135, near County Road 1038, about two miles north. of Jemison, according to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency. Troopers said Shawn A. Smith of Jemison was operating the 2019 Honda Pioneer ATV when he struck an embankment and overturned. He was not using a seat belt, was ejected and pronounced dead at the scene. His passenger was taken to hospital with injuries. No details were released on the severity of the injuries.
