A woman driving a Foothill Transit bus on the westbound 10 Freeway in Baldwin Park on Monday night, June 17, was shot and injured after a man fought with another passenger and started shooting.

The California Highway Patrol was searching for the shooter.

The Silver Streak bus, bound for Los Angeles, had left a West Covina bus stop, Foothill Transit spokeswoman Felicia Friesema said. There were 17 passengers on board when the shooting happened around 6 p.m., east of Puente Avenue.

One passenger, a man in his 30s, got into an argument with the bus driver and another passenger, the CHP said. It is unclear what exactly led to the disputes.

He pulled out a gun and fought with a passenger, the release said, and fired several times.

A woman in her 50s was shot, said Officer Joseph Davila, a CHP spokesman.

When the driver stopped at the Puente Avenue bus stop, the shooter got off the bus and ran. The woman was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

This is the first shooting on a Foothill Transit bus, Friesema said.

The bus driver tried to defuse the tense situation, she said. The buses are equipped with cameras and the drivers are trained in de-escalation by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

The CHP asked anyone with information about the shooting to call them at 626-338-1164. Anonymous tipsters can contact Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477 or lacrimestoppers.org.
