1 dead in third fatal shooting in Napier area this week

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – A man was shot and killed Sunday afternoon near the Napier housing community, marking the third homicide in that area of ​​Nashville in the last four days.

At approximately 2:15 p.m., the Metro Nashville Police Department responded to a shooting near the Sudekum public housing community at Winfrey Street and Lewis Street. When they arrived, they found a man had been shot and lying in the road.

The unidentified man was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. No arrests have been made. Some bullets hit houses in the neighborhood.

Sunday's shooting followed a shooting Saturday afternoon, in which a man was shot and killed in what police describe as a claim of self-defense.

A man was shot and killed in the Napier neighborhood on Fain Street on Thursday.

Two men were arguing in a car when the situation escalated and one of the men pulled out his gun. After he pulled out his gun, it went off, hitting the other man in the chest, police said.

Police said the victim got out of the car and walked into a nearby yard where she later died.

The suspected shooter, identified as Timothy Gibbons Jr., 30, was arrested and charged with criminal homicide. He is accused of the fatal shooting of his family friend Alan Howard.
