1 dead in officer-involved shooting in Spartanburg Co.

PACOLET, SC (WSPA) – One person is dead following a police-involved shooting Sunday evening in Spartanburg County.

The Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office was dispatched to a residence before 8 p.m. in Pacolet in reference to a fight in progress. Along the way, officers learned that the parties involved in the altercation may have been intoxicated.


An officer-involved shooting occurred in Pacolet Sunday evening.

When they arrived, the sheriff's office was notified that shots were being fired. Authorities hid in the forest and observed shots fired from inside the home.

Deputies established a perimeter and made contact with the parties inside the home through a negotiator. Officials said the negotiator tried to negotiate with the suspected shooter for nearly two hours, but all his attempts failed.

During the negotiations, authorities said the suspect fired several shots in the direction of law enforcement.

Officers said authorities at the scene began shooting when the suspect walked toward the road with a loaded gun.

No deputies were injured according to the sheriff's office.

The Spartanburg County Coroner's Office has not identified the individual at this time.

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division is investigating the shooting.
