1 dead following shooting near Cuddy Park

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) – One person is dead following a shooting early Saturday morning near East 40th Avenue and Fairbanks Street, a few blocks east of Cuddy Park.

According to an APD press release, officers responded to shots fired around 1:06 a.m. Upon arrival, an adult was found with a gunshot wound to the upper body and was ultimately pronounced deceased at the scene following life-saving measures taken by Anchorage Fire Department medics. A second adult was found at the scene with a gunshot wound to the lower body. This individual was transported to hospital as his injuries were not life-threatening.

“This is a very active and ongoing investigation,” an email from APD’s communications department said. “As noted in this morning’s release, the drone is one of the tools the crime scene team is using to process the site.”

As of 10 a.m., APD officers at the scene said Fairbanks Street was closed as the investigation continued. So far, no suspects have been identified and no arrests have been made. The department also said in its email that it had not been informed of a public safety issue.

APD added that it has no further information to release at this time.
