1 dead, 2 injured in District Heights shooting – NBC4 Washington

One person is dead and two others were injured after a shooting at a shopping center on Marlboro Pike in District Heights Monday around 3:15 p.m., police said.

The deceased was a man in his twenties. The other two victims were a man in his 60s and a woman in her 50s.

“'The other two victims were transported to the hospital,” said Captain Sonny Batth of the Prince George's County Police. “The victim, a woman, is currently undergoing surgery. The other victim, a man, is currently in stable condition.”

“I thought it was fireworks,” said Thomas Waddell, who heard the gunshots. “I turned around, it was quick like a switch, like brrrr, then pow pow pow pow, something like that.”

The shooting took place outside a produce market, but no one inside currently appears to be involved, although the investigation is still ongoing.

Dozens of evidence markers littered the ground outside the Fresh Market. Some of them marked clothing and items left behind by victims, but most of the markers were placed on shell casings.

“'We actually have to look at everything surrounding the crime scene,'” Batth said. “So sometimes things that are not part of the investigation are part of it.”

Police will also review surveillance footage from the mall.

“And I encourage anyone in the community who has information regarding this incident that took place in front of the 5400 block of Marlboro Pike to come forward,” Batth said. “We can work together to bring these guys to justice.”
