1 dead, 1 seriously injured in the wrong direction, head-on collision

AMBERLEY VILLAGE, Ohio (WXIX) – One driver is dead and another is seriously injured in a head-on wrong-way collision that closed the Ronald Reagan Cross County Highway overnight, according to the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office.

It was reported in the village of Amberley, near the Ridge Avenue exit, at 1:06 a.m. Sunday.

A 2008 Toyota Camry traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes collided head-on with a 2011 Chevrolet Malibu traveling westbound, trapping both drivers, sheriff's officials said in a prepared statement.

Due to the severity of the accident, firefighters from Reading, Blue Ash and Cincinnati responded to extricate both drivers.

The driver of the Toyota, an unidentified man, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the sheriff's office.

The driver of the Chevrolet, a 25-year-old woman, was transported to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center with serious injuries.

Both drivers were wearing seat belts, according to the sheriff's office.

Alcohol may have contributed to the accident, according to sheriff's officials.

The Hamilton County Sheriff's Office Traffic Safety Unit continues to investigate.
