1 dead, 1 injured in Midtown Anchorage shooting

One person died and another was injured in a shooting Saturday morning in Midtown Anchorage, police said.

Officers told police shortly after 1 a.m. that they heard gunshots near East 40th Avenue and Fairbanks Street, Anchorage police said in a statement.

Two adult victims were found when units responded, police said. One was taken to hospital with a gunshot wound to the lower body described as non-life-threatening, and the other – who had a gunshot wound to the upper body – was pronounced dead on scene after Anchorage Fire Department medics administered life-saving measures. , said the police.

“No arrests have been made and no suspect information is available,” police said in a statement.

Investigators will examine the site, police said, and no significant road closures were in effect. The shooting happened in an area about a block west of Old Seward Highway, north of Tudor Road. A number of homeless camps are concentrated along this stretch of Fairbanks Street.
