1 dead, 1 injured after house fire in Seymour, Indiana

Police said Officers Sam Hughes and Joe Fagan found a woman calling for help and suffering from smoke inhalation after discovering the house on fire while they were on patrol.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A man is dead and a woman is in the hospital after a house fire occurred Monday in Seymour, Indiana.

In a social media post, Seymour police said two of their officers were on routine patrol when they discovered the fire around Hancock and Euclid streets.

Police said Officers Sam Hughes and Joe Fagan found a woman calling for help and suffering from smoke inhalation.

They pulled her to safety and tried to save another man who was still inside the burning building, authorities said. But the interior was too bad and the police had to leave the building.

Paramedics responded to the scene and transported the woman to Schneck Medical Center, where her condition is unknown at this time.

The man, identified as Johnathan White, 53, died at the scene, police said.

The Seymour Fire Department and the Indiana State Fire Marshal's Office are investigating the cause of the fire.
