1 dead, 1 injured after fight leads to shooting, Goldsboro police say

GOLDSBORO, N.C. (WNCN) — One man is dead and another is injured after a shooting Wednesday evening, according to the Goldsboro Police Department.

Around 5:47 p.m., officers said they were called to the 1600 block of S. John Street in reference to shots fired.

When officers arrived, they said they found an 18-year-old man who had been shot.

He was taken to the hospital for treatment and then transferred to another facility. He is currently in fair condition, according to police.

While officers were on scene, they said they were also called to the 300 block of Hollowell Avenue in reference to an unresponsive subject.

Police said they found a man inside a vehicle with an apparent gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene.

He was identified as Vorteryahj Sanders, 21, of Dudley, according to the police department.

Based on an initial investigation, police said Sanders was involved in the incident on S. John Street. They said the two victims knew each other and were allegedly involved in a confrontation before the shooting.

Officers said the shooting remains under investigation and no further details are available at this time.
