OPA-LOCKA, FLA. (WSVN) – A man was killed and one person was arrested by police following a shooting in Opa-locka.

Opa-locka Police units responded to the incident in the northwest area of 17th Avenue and 142nd Lane shortly before 8:30 a.m. Saturday.

Officers arrived and found a man suffering from at least one gunshot wound.

Miami-Dade Fire Department paramedics transported the victim to HCA Florida Aventura Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Returning to the scene, officers established a perimeter with assistance from Miami-Dade police.

“I went out to go get breakfast, and they were telling me I couldn't leave,” said local resident King Jordan, “so I had to wait about an hour and a half before They didn't give me permission, and after they gave me permission to leave, I left.

MDPD detectives said they arrested one person to determine their involvement in the shooting, but as of Saturday evening, it remains unclear whether that person is connected to the crime as police continue their investigation.
