1 arrested after leaving It demolished. crossing

Santa Cruz police said a woman was arrested after allegedly driving off the demolished Highway 1 bridge in Capitola. This incident occurred around 1:57 a.m. Monday when police received a call about a stolen vehicle in Santa Cruz. The vehicle was spotted, but no pursuit was initiated for safety reasons. Santa Cruz police tell KBSW 8 the driver left the south side of the demolished bridge and struck Highway 1 below. The California Highway Patrol says the crash was reported around 2:12 p.m. The driver of the vehicle was seriously injured, while the juvenile passenger suffered minor injuries, according to the CHP. The passenger was then released to his parents. Briana Fernandez, of Watsonville, faces charges of child endangerment and possession of a stolen vehicle, according to a Santa Cruz police spokesperson.
