Veteran FSU football linebacker identified as 'underrated NFL draft prospect'

One of the most difficult parts of Florida State's upcoming 2024 campaign will be effectively replacing the 10 former Seminoles selected in April's NFL Draft. At the same time, head coach Mike Norvell has built depth on the team while pairing it with high-profile transfers to put his program in a position to reload rather than rebuild.

Redshirt senior linebacker DJ Lundy is expected to play a pivotal role on and off the field during his final year in Tallahassee. He opted to return to the Seminoles after hitting the transfer portal this winter. Since that fiasco, Lundy has fully embraced the message from Florida State’s coaches and it was evident with his performance during spring practice.

“I'm not going to lie, my body feels better now than it ever has. I'm not really tired anymore,” Lundy said earlier this year. “Just being able to play freely and have fun is the best feeling ever. Right now, I'm having fun, connecting and playing with my brothers.”

Before his latest appearance in garnet and gold, Lundy was gaining some well-deserved buzz around the NFL. The veteran linebacker was recently identified as an underrated prospect by CBS Sports’ Blake Brockermeyer.

“Lundy is a nervous fullback with good instincts in the box. He finds open space and can get close quickly to make plays. His ability to rush passes makes him a poor opponent for most blitzing backs. »

Lundy spent most of the last two seasons as the primary linebacker coming off the bench behind Kalen DeLoach and Tatum Bethune. He played in 13 games, including four starts, in 2023, totaling 54 tackles, six tackles for loss, two sacks, four pass deflections and the first interception of his college career. That performance earned him ACC Honorable Mention.

The Georgia native has been a familiar face in the rotation throughout his four years with the Seminoles. He has recorded 183 tackles, 16.5 tackles for loss, five sacks, eight pass deflections, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery and one interception in 45 appearances, with 17 starts. As FSU's primary back the past two seasons, he has also rushed four times for three yards and three touchdowns while catching one pass for one yard and another touchdown.

Lundy was a member of Mike Norvell's inaugural recruiting class at Florida State in 2020.
