US military identifies two Marines killed in crash near Pendleton Thursday morning

The U.S. military on Friday identified two Marines who were killed Thursday, along with a third person who has not yet been identified, in an early morning traffic jam on I-5 near Camp Pendleton.

Jess Davis, 38, of Tennessee, and Stephen Williams, 37, of Texas, were among a group of four whose motorcycles crashed into vehicles that had collided and become disabled on the lanes in southbound highway in the area of ​​Las Pulgas Road around 3 a.m. Thursday, according to the Navy and California Highway Patrol.

Williams and Davis died at the scene of the crash, as did one of the other riders. The name of the third rider has not been released.

Paramedics took the fourth motorcyclist to the hospital for treatment of severe trauma, along with four other people who suffered varying degrees of injury in the crash, the CHP said.

Davis served aboard the Point Loma-based attack submarine USS Alexandria, and Williams was assigned to the Southwest Regional Maintenance Center in San Diego, Navy spokesman Brian O' said. Rourke.
