Kidman Calls Her Teenage Daughters With Keith Urban 'Very Supportive'

When Nicole Kidman is looking for unfiltered feedback, she relies on her mother — and her teenage daughters — to get straight to the point.

“They're very supportive,” Kidman says of her daughters Sunday Rose, 15, and Faith Margaret, 13, whom she shares with husband Keith Urban. “But they also say, 'OK, calm down,'” smiles the actress, who stars in Netflix's new romantic comedy, A family matter. “But I think it's important not to have sycophants [around you].”

Kidman adds: “And it’s not about looking for really terrible reviews either… We’re all a work in progress, as they say. »

In A family matterKidman, 57, finds romance with Zac Efron, 36, who plays a self-centered movie star attracted to the long-suffering mother of his personal assistant (Joey King, 24).

In the May-December romantic comedy, it's King's pragmatic character who speaks directly to his famous boss. In real life, “family is always best” for getting constructive feedback, Efron says, citing his parents. “Sometimes I'm my own worst critic, so it's hard,” he says. “I already think about that most of the time, so it’s nice to have positive encouragement.” »

Accolades were plentiful at the recent American Film Institute Life Achievement Award ceremony in Los Angeles, where the Oscar winner was joined by her extended family and carried by stars including Meryl Streep, Naomi Watts and Mike Myers.

“It was a very warm evening,” says Kidman, reflecting on the ceremony. “My sister and my daughters came. It was their first time on a red carpet, and Keith was there. I also had all my nieces and nephews. The whole family was there, and that's what I loved. It also made me go back, which is not something I do often. »
