Suspect on Federal I-5 was stabbed and will be charged with murder

The Washington State Patrol (WSP) has identified a suspect and filed charges in connection with a fatal stabbing on northbound I-5 near 375th Street South in Federal Way on Wednesday, June 26, 2024.

WSP said the incident happened around 2:40 p.m., when they received multiple 9-1-1 calls reporting a domestic violence situation involving a black BMW.

Callers reported seeing several injured people in and around the BMW, which was partially in the right ditch.

Gunshots were also reported from the vehicle. When officers arrived, they found a man and a woman with stab wounds who had walked away from the car. Another man was found on the ground next to the vehicle with multiple gunshot wounds.

Unfortunately, the driver, who had received a large stab wound to the neck, was found dead in the car.

Officers confirmed that all four individuals involved were in the BMW, with no other vehicles or people involved. The injured were transported to local hospitals for treatment.

It was initially unclear who the suspect was and who the victims were. The scene was processed by WSP detectives and the Crime Scene Response Team and was cleared by 11 p.m.

Further investigation, including interviews, revealed that one of the adults in the backseat was the suspect who stabbed the driver and the two other passengers. This suspect, who suffered multiple gunshot wounds, remains in hospital. Once medically cleared, the suspect will be booked into the King County Jail on charges of second-degree murder and two counts of first-degree assault.

The identities of those involved will not be released until the suspect is arrested or charges are filed by the King County District Attorney's Office.
