Search for Jay Slater moves to missing teenager's last known 'dangerous' location as Tenerife police take stock

Spanish police begin their search in a “difficult” landscape in Tenerife in a bid to find missing British teenager Jay Slater – but say there have been “no developments”.

Officers from the Civil Guard, the police force leading the search, were seen using binoculars scanning the dangerous landscape near the small village of Masca and the remote area where the 19-year-old's phone last “ringed” – about 800 metres north of the AirBnB where he stayed on Sunday night before setting off on foot.

The Civil Guard told the Manchester Evening News Law enforcement said this morning that there had been no “developments” as they remained stationed at Teno Rural Park. The widespread search in difficult terrain appeared to have been scaled back on Friday (June 21).

Jay's friends who had flown in to help the victims were not present at the previous search site in rural Masca on Friday, with only a few tourists braving the journey to appreciate the surrounding scenery. A Civil Guard spokesperson said they could not confirm further details as the search continues.

On Wednesday, the Civil Guard said its agents had moved their search to the south of the island, to tourist spots near where Jay was staying with friends in Los Cristianos and Playa de Las Americas.

They later confirmed that the search had returned to the north of the island. However, tourists in the south have spotted the police helicopter “going up and down and up and down” several times in recent days.

They added that they had seen police patrolling the busy seafront since news of Jay's disappearance broke. Jay's family, including his mother Debbie, travelled to the Spanish island to help officers.

Debbie said she was in a “waking nightmare” and wished she had told her son not to go to Tenerife before he disappeared. ITV Newsshe said: “I wouldn’t wish this on anyone. I want my baby back. It's a nightmare, a real living nightmare. »
