New York woman convicted of stabbing man to death in 2021

A New York woman was found guilty of murdering a man in a 2021 stabbing attack on Thursday.

After a month-long trial and three days of deliberation, a Greene County jury found Carrie Weiser guilty of second-degree murder.

“This was a very complicated case,” Greene County Prosecutor Joseph Stanzione wrote in a news release. “A great deal of evidence was presented to the jury by both the prosecution and the defense.”

On November 27, 2021, police responded to the apartment of Scott Myers, 68, in Catskill, where Myers was found suffering from a stab wound. Weiser, who was 32 at the time, was arrested and charged with stabbing Myers on the left side of his neck, severing his carotid artery.

Myers died of his injuries, according to New York State Police.

In December 2021, a grand jury passed an indictment against Weiser, charging him with second-degree murder and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon. Although the appearance was rescheduled until after the indictment, defense attorney statements challenged Weiser's indictment in court, including one asserting that Myers had intended to rape Weiser and that Weiser had “killed Scott Myers in self-defense.”

Stanzione wrote in the June 28 press release that the jury considered “each of the elements of the crime” and “agreed that the prosecution not only proved the murder charge beyond a reasonable doubt,” but also refuted “beyond a reasonable doubt” each of the defenses provided by defense counsel.

“This jury spared no effort in unanimously concluding that Carrie Weiser did indeed murder Scott Myers,” Stanzione wrote.

Weiser is scheduled to be sentenced Aug. 27.
