Man dead after fatal police shooting at Lynchburg Super 8 Motel

The Lynchburg Police Department reports that a man is dead after a police shooting at the Super 8 Motel on Candlers Mountain Road on Thursday, June 27.

LYNCHBURG, Va. (WFXR) – The Lynchburg Police Department reports that one man is dead after a police shooting at the Super 8 Motel on Candlers Mountain Road on Thursday, June 27.

According to the police department, officers were attempting to arrest a wanted man at the Super 8 located in the 3700 block of Candlers Mountain Road. When officers contacted the man in the hotel room, they discovered he was allegedly barricaded in with a female hostage and was armed.


After the officers attempted to negotiate with the man, he allegedly confronted them while holding the woman hostage. Police say when he refused to obey repeated commands to disarm, an officer discharged his handgun and struck the man.

LPD officers immediately rendered aid to the man, but he did not survive.

Police said no officers were injured in the incident and the woman involved was taken to Lynchburg General Hospital for evaluation.

As in typical cases like this, the officer involved has been placed on a non-enforcement, limited-duty assignment until an investigation is completed.

Virginia State Police and the Lynchburg Police Department are investigating this incident. WFXR News will update this story as more information is released.
