Mad Butcher grocery store to reopen after Fordyce mass shooting

FORDYCE, Ark. – A Fordyce grocery store that was the scene of a tragic shooting last week will soon reopen its doors to the community.

In a social media post, grocery store officials announced that it will reopen Tuesday, July 2, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Store representatives said the facility will operate limited hours until further notice.

The grocery store was temporarily closed following a deadly shooting that left four people dead and eight others injured, including several police officers.

Authorities confirmed that Callie Weems, 23, Roy Sturgis, 50, Shirley Taylor, 52, and Ellen Shrum, 81, were killed in the shooting.

Travis Posey was identified as the suspected shooter. He has pleaded not guilty in Ouachita County to four counts of capital murder and ten counts of attempted capital murder.

Fordyce shared his experiences of the tragedy, with some remembering their story of survival and others mourning the loss of their loved ones.

Several business and state leaders have come out in support of the Fordyce community. Among those offering their condolences were the Lutheran Church Charities of Chicago, gospel artist Kirk Franklin and Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders.
