Louisiana Sheriff's Office Modifies Traffic Stops Due to Heat

Known for its social media engagement and light-hearted Facebook posts, the Sheriff's Office announced a new protocol for traffic stops that has everyone talking and laughing.

In a recent Facebook post, the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office announced that deputies will no longer ask drivers to get out of their vehicles during traffic stops. Instead, deputies will “join drivers inside their cars.” The post, which quickly went viral, humorously asked drivers to leave their air conditioning on and prepare roadside snacks.

“With the temperature soaring outside, we are no longer asking you to exit your vehicle,” the post read. “We will, however, ask if you would mind if we join you in your vehicle for the remainder of the traffic stop. Please keep the air conditioning running and bring snacks for the road. Thank you.” They even added hashtags like #AGoodPlaylistOnTheAuxWouldBeNice and #GotAnyJuiceBoxesTheKidsWontMiss, adding to the fun.

The community's response matched its positive energy, with comments ranging from the practical to the downright hilarious:

Cilka Jenkins wrote: “I have kids. I always eat snacks in the car.”

Leisa Sellers added: “Stay cool as you can!! lol”

Sarah Ann shared: “Yes please have a seat, ignore the patches on the headliner…do you want water or snacks…or can we go get daiquiris at the drive thru lol.”

While this is clearly a funny joke, it is a perfect example of how a little humor and humanity can go a long way in building trust and camaraderie between law enforcement and the community.

So hats off to the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office for not only keeping us safe, but also putting smiles on our faces during these sweltering summer days. And if you find yourself stopped, don't forget to run the air conditioning and maybe share a snack or two just in case.
