How to hide players near quest NPCs in FFXIV Dawntrail

Want to know how to hide players near npc quest in ffxiv? This probably isn't your first expansion launch rodeo. Fortunately, there is finally a way to deal with the problem of players invading important characters. This problem is simply buried in equally cluttered menus.

Revealed in one of the final producer letters before launch, a new filter has been specifically designed to make other players disappear when you approach NPCs. This only works on NPCs that still have quests to give, but that's when you'll want to use it. Here's what to do.

How to hide players near quest NPCs in FFXIV Dawntrail

To hide players around quest NPCs, you need to access the character configuration settings menu.

From here, stay on the Control Settings tab on the left. It's first under the Mouse/Controller toggle and should be the default.

On its General tab (again, this should be the default window), scroll down.

The second to last setting should be titled “Quest Progression Settings”.

There are several options to change who to hide and when.

Check the first box below, “Hide nearby players near quest NPCs” to have other players disappear when you approach a major NPC. This makes interacting with them much easier.

The button below also hides the party members. Just in case they're a royal pain and can't help but annoy you.

Below that, you have the option to make players stay wilted while you talk to the NPC they're swarming about. It's not necessary, but it's nice if you want to spend some one-on-one time with Estinien.

Again, the button below also extends the functionality to NPCs in the party.

In short, follow these steps to make collecting and completing quests easier in Final Fantasy XIV:

  • Open the Character Setup menu.
  • Scroll to the Control Settings – General tab.
  • Check the boxes under the Quest Progress Settings option.
  • Click Apply.
