Court records show Shaneka Smith was arrested in Harris County Tuesday night. She was later released on $100 bail.

KP George said in a statement that he was aware of the arrest and continues to prioritize the safety and trust of the community.

“My office is aware of the situation regarding the arrest of Shaneka Smith, my chief of staff, on suspicion of driving while intoxicated (DWI),” he said in the statement. “I take this situation very seriously.

“The safety and trust of our community are our highest priorities, and we will continue to uphold the standards of integrity and accountability that our citizens expect of us. Further updates will be provided as they become available. “

ABC13 premier reported that a staff member had been arrested, although they did not name the employee. The Fort Bend Independent later identified the staff member like Smith.

George's former chief of staff, Taral Patel, was also stopped earlier this month. He is accused of online identity theft and false declaration of identity.
