Deadly shooting of Seattle teen leads to high-speed chase to Everett

The shooting of a teenager in South Seattle Thursday night sparked a high-speed chase that ultimately ended in Everett, multiple law enforcement agencies reported.

Shortly after 8:30 p.m. Thursday night, members of the Seattle Police Department (SPD) arrived at the 7400 block of Rockery Drive South after receiving a report of a shooting.

According to a report in the SPD Blotter, officers found an unconscious teenager at the scene with gunshot wounds.

The department said officers provided assistance until the Seattle Fire Department (SFD) arrived and took over.

From there, the boy was transported to Harborview Medical Center where staff continued to treat him until his death.

The SFD said the teen who died was 14 years old, according to KIRO 7 and other area media outlets.

The individuals were arrested after being chased to Everett, SPD Blotter said, adding that the investigation remains active and ongoing.

KIRO 7 reported that the Snohomish County Sheriff's Office said the suspects were traveling at “a high rate of speed” before exiting Interstate 5 (I-5) north at 128th Street NE.

The pursuit ended with a pursuit immobilization technique (PIT) maneuver, which is a “pursuit tactic by which a pursuing vehicle can force a fleeing vehicle to turn sharply to the side, causing a loss of driver control and an engine stall,” as noted in this PDF of a 2019 Snohomish County legal document. The Everett Police Department (EPD) confirmed in a Facebook post Thursday evening that the pursuit of the suspect vehicle ended in the city of Everett and that the suspects in the vehicle were arrested near the 900 block of Madison Street.

SPD, via its SPD Blotter post, and EPD confirmed that all occupants of the vehicle were arrested following the chase. But neither agency has confirmed the number of people in the vehicle. KIRO 7 reported that three people were arrested after the chase ended.

Future requests should be directed to the SPD. If anyone has any information about this incident, they are asked to call the SPD Violent Crime Tip Line at (206) 233-5000 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
